Deb Girnius was born in Yuma, Arizona (U.S.A.) and grew up in a small prairie town called McLouth, Kansas, located near Kansas City. Many contemporary legends who have come from the same region of the country have played a significant role in the development and inspiration of roots music. Greats like Charlie Parker, Melissa Etheridge and Joe Walsh broke in their first instruments in north-eastern Kansas.

Girnius moved to Norway in January of 1994. Already in early 1995, She became actively involved with "Mjuk Mic", a songwriters'/poets' club which held weekly concerts at Smuget , a notorious hot spot in Oslo, promoting local singer/songwriters. "Mjuk Mic" spawned two currently popular songwriters' clubs in Oslo, "Josefine's Viseklubb" and "Nye Skalder". In addition, Deb landed the position of  MC at Smuget's "Mandagsklubben", a weekly gathering place for the who's who of the Norwegian entertainment industry, where she quickly became established as a active part of Oslo's music scene. She has since travelled nation-wide as one of  Norway's most sought-after troubadours and has toured as a vocalist, guitarist and flautist with Swedish folk legend Merit Hemmingson, Joey Tempest (Europe) and as a duo with Norwegian pop icon Unni Wilhelmsen, among others. Girnius has been a familiar personality on Scandinavian television, her most recent performance acheiving record ratings on the Norwegian Broadcasting Network's "Beat for Beat"
. Deb has also worked as a lyric consultant for several critically acclaimed Norwegian recording artists.

Her latest projects include being a featured artist with Norwegian Beatles revival band, Det Betales, and is the flautist and acoustic guitarist for
Retroheads.  Retroheads is an internationally known progessive rock band who has now released their second album, Introspective, on Candadian label, Unicorn Records.   In addition, Deb has joined forces with Lucifer Was, yet another prog rock band, and very well established.  They've been together since 1970 and are now recording a new CD with the Kristiansand Symphony Orcherstra.  The project is appropriately titled, "Crown of Creation", which will be released by the Swedish record company, Transubstans Records by the end of the year.

The debut solo album, "Working Woman" is now finally completed and available for order via
e-mail and soon to be distributed world-wide by Gladiatrix Productions. To listen to selected tracks, clickety

Currently, Girnius is out with a new CD,  "Nice 'n' Rough", with producers Thore Engen and Freddy Linquist.  Nice 'n' Rough captures the live sound of Deb which has been in great demand.  It's due for web release this year and is currently available at Deb's concerts.

Deb's music brings forth all the elements
of true Mid Western American drive, coloured by the timeless roots of international pop music; rock, blues, funk, folk and jazz...garnished by a generous dose of English Beatles-style retro.
